Members of Cumann
na bhFear completed the restoration of a three wheel bicycle that could be from the 1920s.
The three wheel bicycle was in service with the
national (Irish) Post and Telegraph (P & T) service. Fitted out
with a large wicker basket in front, postmen used such bikes to deliver commercial
and domestic parcels and letters in urban areas.
Before
After
The bike was used by the Cumann during St. Patrick's Day Parades and on our Three Galway Castles Heritage Cycle Trail.
The bike's wicker basket can carry
first aid kit, a bike repair kit and picnic beverages/foods.
The bicycle was on loan to the club from heritage enthusiast Micheál Keaney from Castle Ellen.
